Mental Well-being is an essential for each and every individual..

Happiness to be a vulgar ideal and preferred eudemonic well-being as the ultimate state of human potential”.(Aristotle)

Your mental well-being is about your thoughts and feelings and how you cope with the ups and downs of everyday life. It doesn’t mean feeling happy all the time but being able to figure out the challenges, we face. In our 21st century almost one of the half generation across the globe are experiencing mental illness. Most of them are experiencing different forms of depression and anxiety. To keep the body in good health is a duty, otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind stronger like the sun and fresh like the clear sky. Overall mental well-being is as important as your physical well-being. Every year “World Mental Health” day is observed on 10th October. On this day of 2020, the World Health Organization will host a global event on mental health.

Some of the most comforting words in the universe are “me too”. That moment when you find out that your struggle is also someone else’s struggle, that you are not alone, and that others have been down the same road.”

Throughout Asia, research suggests that at least 10% of the world’s population is affected and that 20% of children and adults suffer from some types of mental illness. In case of low and middle income countries, economic studies suggest that massive burden on national economies of lost productivity is attributable to a high prevalence of mental disorders. Although India is the world’s 5th largest economy, which spent 0.05 % of its health budget annually on mental health over the last five years, which is much lower than low income countries. India has 9000 psychiatrists or one doctor for every 100,000 people. But the desirable doctors are three among 100,000 people. So scarcity of doctors is created. Government needs to be addressed this portion of mental wellbeing. According to the World Happiness Index 2020, India was at a 144th rank among a total 156 countries. On the other hand, Pakistan ranked 66th. Finland held 1st rank , followed by Denmark and Switzerland.

It is normal to feel stressed and negative, but usually those feelings are managed and passed. Sometimes those negative feelings gradually develop into a serious mental health issues. Those people, who have been experiencing low mental well-being over a long period of time, which will cause chronic mental disease in the future. In this situation, they are afraid to visit a doctor, knowing that they can struggle with this problem alone and can solve too. The big reason is for that the misconception of our society that mental illness is prejudiced. We may not remember that we have ever gone to a doctor or hospital to diagnose a mental issues, while from minor physical health issues like cough, cold or fever to severe illness like cancer, diabetes etc. .

There are various reasons, why people struggle with mental well-being. It includes, loneliness, being an introvert, relationship problems, unemployment, money issues. Early life trauma will also have an effect on future health problems.

Studies have shown that, there are few steps to improve mental well-being, connecting with friends and family, positive relationship with others, being active and mindful, learning new things and being confident. Engage yourself with any of the work every time. Meditation is also another tool of mental wellbeing. Now in my point of view, we are the students, who are playing pivoting role of our society, break the misconception of mental illness and aware about that as much as possible. Hopefully we will smile together one day.

“You are amazing – remember that!”
